He is still trying to bring down a big criminal boss who has been dodging the police and Rebus and its become is obsession as he tries to tie in in to the current case, which also involves Russian business men and big time bankers and MP's. At one point Rebus is suspended a few days before his retirement date but he continues to work the case form the sidelines with the help of Sgt. Siobhan Clark and members of his old team. The end of the book gets him retired and the case partly solved, but with a possible murder rap now hanging over his head. A necessity for Rebus fans I think and will there be another book to tells us what will happen to Rebus?
