Catherine McLeod, a journalist for a Denver paper is doing working on an article about the Arapaho and Cheyenne tribes and their attempt to reclaim their ancestral lands. Coming home after walking her dog, she feels that she is being followed and nervously sprinting to her townhouse she rushes inside bolting doors behind her. Peering out the window she sees a shadowy figure pass slowly by. Keeping the lights out she calls a friend and then 911. Her friend arrives first and as she is letting him in he is pushed violently from behind as a figure in black with masked face rushes in. Her friend tries to fight the intruder but ends up being shot while Catherine is taking cover behind an overturned table. The sound of approaching sirens cause the intruder to rush out and disappear. There are several more attempts on her life as Catherine goes into hiding while still working on the story which involves the 1800s massacre of both Arapaho and Cheyenne villages, the old treaties with the Government, Old time settlers whoÕs families still control much of the politics and business of the area and the behind the scenes scheming to get the casino build against statewide opposition. And the killer is still out there hunting for her. Vicky Holden and Wesley Iron Shirt from her earlier books make a brief appearance as well.
