Soft Cover - An Historical novel set in England of the year 1665-1666. In a small village of poor crofters, lead minors and small tradesmen, the villagers are going about their daily lives as narrated by Anna Firth the recent widow of a miner, sometime servant at Bradford Hall seat of the local noble and at the parsonage of the local clergyman and his wife. When a tailor new to the village is directed to here cottage in search of lodging, she takes him on as a border in the loft. Life continues in its normal vein until a delivery of cloth comes for the tailor. He is soon taken ill and in a short time sucumbs. The Plague has arrived. The story is now about how the villagers led by the minister and assisted by his wife and Anna cope with the spreading plague and how at the urging of the minister finally set itself apart from the rest of the country side.
I am no literary expert, but I know what I like and I liked this book very much. If you like historical novels of this period you may will like this one.
