PB - Going to try this again as the 'puter froze and it didn't save the first time. Deputy Sheriff J Pennington of Kickapoo, Wisconsin gets involved in investigating several murders that are tied to him. He was a snoper in WWII and captured and escaped for a prison camp and he believes that the commandant of that camp has shown up in Kickapoo in 1960s and is killing people close to him. He is running for sheriff and the current sheriff is not friendly nor are a lot of the towns people and he is suspected of the killings himself. A inspector from Scotland Yard shows up in town also in the hunt for the German SS officer and becomes friendly with Pennington, who now suspects that the killer has his eye on JFK who is making a visit to the nearby Twin Cities. I found the book just so so and a bit racy in places and Pennington has some traits that are not good for being a law officer.
