Ryan James, a minor league star ball player for the PawSox team in Pawtucket, RI is in the most important game of the season, with Red Sox Scouts in the stands, but not his wife and daughter who is expecting. When the manager hangs up the phone and calls the umpire for a time out signaling Ryan to come out of the game, he knows something is up. His wifeÕs car has been run off the road by a hit and run driver and she and his daughter in the hospital. His daughter is ok but his wife does not make it and over the months RyanÕs life changes as insomnia takes over and lack of sleep ends his ball career. He finds a job on a Radio Shock Jock show, but even there lack of sleep is getting to him. ItÕs been 3 years since the accident and no arrests, not even a clue as to who the other driver was, until the prosecutor who has not given up on the case, gets a anonymous tip that opens up the case. Then begins the meat of the book as Ryan and the prosecutor, Emma begin to unravel the tip and more. This was a good read, new characters and set in RI and the Boston area.

Another action adventure by Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon as they are contracted to locate the US Secretary of State whose plane has gone missing over Libya on the way to an international peace conference. If you havenÕt met the Oregon and her crew before, the Oregon is and old rusted, dirty, dilapidated freighter that plies the oceans of the world. But that is just the public view, it is actually a totally modern ship filled with sophisticated technical equipment and arms and manned by a crew of ex military, technicians, business people and support staff. Its run as a private company the hires out to individuals and governments ( often the US government) to perform tasks that need to be done Òoff the booksÓ as it were. What they donÕt do is work for the Òbad guysÓ but they get into just about anything else. Different cast and operational area, but typical of a Cussler book, fast read, lots of action, good escape reading.
